The Origin of Loló
About 10,000 years ago, gonfotheria, saber-toothed tigers and glyptodonts roamed the fields of Lolol. These extinct animals were hunted by nomadic human groups who consumed the fruit of the hawthorn called quirinca. This fruit was ground with sticks on stones, creating cups or holes that served as mortars. The largest concentration of these stones is found at Punta la Piedra, 4.5 km from Viña Santa Cruz.
When the Mapuche arrived, they named this area Lo Lo, 'place of many holes'. With the arrival of the Spanish, it was adapted to Spanish, finally becoming Lolol.
Today as a team, inspired by our surroundings and by the creations of local chef Marcos Baeza, we bring honest food to the table, accompanied by excellent wines that enhance locally sourced products. Thus Loló was born, the renewed gastronomic proposal of Viña Santa Cruz.
